The Android shipped. The account didn't.

The motor-brain officially became a platform race this month. NVIDIA is shipping edge world models that run on the robot itself and lining up industrial coalitions behind them. Mistral released its first robotics foundation model, hardware-agnostic and simulation-trained. Isaac GR00T and Physical Intelligence are both pitched, in almost the same words, as an Android for robotics. Some of the best-capitalized teams in AI are building the operating system for the physical world, in public, several times over.

We think they are right about the shape and early about the layer. Every one of these systems is an operating system for control: perception in, action out, policies that generalize across bodies. Robotics needs that, and we are glad the field's best teams are racing to supply it, because whoever wins, our product gets better the same day. Motor intelligence is our supply chain.

An OS for control is not an OS for the relationship

But notice what none of them is building. Whose machine is this? What has it learned about this home, and who owns that? What is it allowed to do, in which rooms, around which people? What did it actually do last night, and can anyone prove it? Those are not control questions. They are account questions, and in every other computing platform the account layer, not the kernel, is where the customer relationship lives. The Android shipped. The account that logs in didn't.

Waymo never built the car

The strongest precedent for how this settles is driving. Waymo is not a car company. It built the driver and deployed it on other makers' metal: Chrysler minivans, then Jaguars, now Zeekr and Hyundai platforms. The vertical bet in that market, own the metal and the brain end to end, is Tesla's. A decade in, the paid driverless rides at scale belong to the company that stayed the intelligence layer on merchant hardware. The foundational work was delivered by the split, not despite it: car people built the car, driver people built the driver, and each was better for not doing the other's job.

The home will make the same split for the same reason. Bodies are commoditizing fast, motor intelligence is becoming a merchant layer with multiple strong suppliers, and a household does not want its memory, permissions, and trust welded to either one.

Your robot's memory should not belong to the robot company

There is also a version of this race we think families should refuse. Some shipping home robots route human teleoperators through your rooms and keep the footage to train future models. The default, in other words, is extractive: the vendor holds the account, and your home is the training data. Edge processing answers where the compute runs. It does not answer who owns the memory.

Cereal is the other answer. The family owns the mind. Perception is a grant the household makes and can revoke. Memory is inspectable, portable, and stays home. Every action lands in an attested trail the family can verify. The bodies will keep getting better and cheaper, the motor-brains will keep getting smarter, and both are exactly why the account above them, permanent, permissioned, and owned by the household, is the layer that matters.

The OS for control is crowded. The account for the home is still open. That is the part we are building.
